This 70 page document includes an anchor text called All About Economics that I break down over the course of 5 lessons to teach economics concepts to my first grade students.
This is an interdisciplinary unit that not only includes social studies content, but also math as well.
Description
Each lesson includes a suggested cooperative learning strategy, a song that relates to economics, and content vocabulary review. A few lessons even include video clips that can be accessed on You Tube for an anticipatory set that builds excitement for the lesson of the day.
If you love integration, I added a story called ‘The Best Pizza Ever’. It is a short story about scarcity that includes mini-signs for students to participate in the retelling.
Content vocabulary for this plan includes: needs, wants, choice, trade-off, opportunity cost, scarcity, goods, services, money, trade, producer, consumer, market, and saving.
There are two group games. Goods & Services Bingo, and a version of the classic game Pit, that I’ve entitled The Marketplace Game, that you can use to reinforce the concepts being taught.
