Getting Ready for Lunch

September 20, 2014 by Tamara

Happy Weekend to you all!
It’s time for another installment of the Bright Ideas Hop! 🙂  This month, I’ll be chatting about how I get the kids ready to line up each day! 🙂
One thing that I try to remember to do now is to get ready a few minutes early.  Sometimes, if I’m in a rush, I find that this encourages silly behavior on the part of the children.  Just two minutes earlier and they are calm and ready for the transition.

The first thing I do is an attention grabber or two.  I taught my students that there is NO talking after an attention grabber.  They also know that I need to see their eyes so that they are focused on me.

Next, I ask them to get their lunch box, or their lunch tag.  They wear their tag on their neck so that they can remember their lunch number in the line.  It’s been great for them! 🙂

Once they have their tags or lunchboxes, they line up on their number.  This avoids any confusion about where they should be.  No pushing. No shoving.
Perfect!

The last thing I do before we go to lunch is sing a line up song!  This helps my students remember the rules of how to behave in the hallway and in the lunch line.

These are some simple things that I do to help me get the kids ready to go into lunch…
