A Day in the Life: Mrs. Russell’s Room

August 28, 2013 by Tamara

Well, yes…happy hump day to ya…but EVEN BETTER….
Mrs. Russell’s Room brings you…
I am linking up with Jessica over at the Second First Grade Nest to share my adventures in teaching with you! ๐Ÿ™‚  You can link up too, if you want!  Just take some pictures of your day and post about it!
I wrapped up last nights visual plans post kinda late and jumped into bed not too long after.

I was up at 6:45 or so…and by 7:30 I was ready to walk out the door, but I gotta have my vitamins first! ๐Ÿ™‚
This is what my room looked like when I walked in the door.  I try to leave things set up for the next day as much as possible.

On my way to get a soda…I stopped by my girl, Lindsay’s room!  She teaches first with me and is super good at crafty things.  I gave her my ten sided dice to put together for me…she did it in like five minutes!  Awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚  Thanks, Linds!  {{Hugs}}
The uber cute kidlet in the pic is her former student and my grade chairs daughter.  I remember when the kid was in pampers!  Where does the time go?  What a sweetie she is! ๐Ÿ™‚  Love her! ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning we worked through my sight words packet.  We did bingo with the dice Lindsay made for me! ๐Ÿ™‚  I hosted another teacher’s class in my room to kind of model the phonics program for her and her firsties.  Her kids were ADORBS and they were totally into participating in any crazy, hairbrained review activity I had in mind.  Loved them! ๐Ÿ™‚

After our visitors left, we worked on recalling details from the story in our basal series.  This smartie in my classroom took out the book and to refresh his memory! ๐Ÿ™‚  Love that my kidlets know that it is okay to use the TEXT! ๐Ÿ™‚

Daily 5 centers! ๐Ÿ™‚  We are still working on stamina and not really going through ALL of the centers yet…but they are doing a great job at practicing the routine!

Writer’s Notebook time today was all about writing a personal narrative.  This student is drawing a picture of his first day at school!

Poetry journal time! Today we marked all of the rhyming words with an orange crayon and practiced fluency!

Lunch time! ๐Ÿ™‚  One of my firsties is getting into the whole captain of the ship and piratey bit…check out that sharp salute! ๐Ÿ˜‰  Love that little guy! ๐Ÿ™‚  So fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

We worked on our math journals a bit today and also on counting on strategies in math today.

After recess and math, we worked on our citizenship pack.  Today we talked about how rules at school were the same and different from rules in the neighborhood.  This student really got into the activity and opted to draw me a picture to express her thinking.  It was a REALLY GOOD picture, too! ๐Ÿ™‚  Loved it! ๐Ÿ™‚  Totally had the correct answers in each section! ๐Ÿ™‚  Just much more artsy! ๐Ÿ™‚

When I got home…this guy was at my front door.  Apparently he thought he could make his home on my front stoop.  He was incorrect.  The hubs relocated him to the side of our house.  He was the size of my palm.  Eeek! :/

I took a nap when I got home…a long day and a scary spider will do that to a girl.  After dinner, I made this freebie for you that will be at the end of this post.  And I started to work on this post for you! ๐Ÿ™‚
We start watching late so that we can fast forward the commercials! ๐Ÿ™‚
We don’t miss this show.  I’ve been watching since Season One.  I can tell you the names of dancers who danced to specific songs on the show…and what season they were in too…yeah…I’m obsessed. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Cubbies are on another West Coast swing, but they are playing my husband’s ‘bandwagon’ team…the LA Dodgers.  So…he vaccilates between…cheering for both sides…its a little wierd…but…he’s beyond excited…so….it’s a great way to end the night! ๐Ÿ™‚
If you would like my ‘Catch Up’ folder for your learners, go on ahead and click on the picture to download it! ๐Ÿ™‚   I made it EDITABLE so you can take out my name, and put yours in instead! ๐Ÿ™‚  How fun is that!! ๐Ÿ™‚  Just print it, and then glue it on to the front of a regular folder.  When you have students that are absent…you can send home missed work in it! ๐Ÿ™‚
