Fun Friday really IS Fun! :)

August 31, 2013 by Tamara

First of all…thanks to everyone who participated in my rafflecopter for the Citizenship Pack and my Sight Word Pack for August! 🙂  The winner is…

Do you guys do Fun Friday with your students?  I was first introduced to the concept by my first grade team about five years ago.  Basically, its an incentive.  Students who have completed their work and participated in class properly get a choice of a specific room to visit for 30 minutes.  We do different things each year. This year, there are four of us, so…we’re doing Quiet Room, Indoor or Outdoor Play, Movie Room and Arts & Crafts.  I decided to do arts and crafts because I found this really great pack by Jessica over at the First Grade Nest! 🙂  Fun Friday is a great motivator for good behavior…and the arts and crafts room was a HIT this week! 🙂

If  you’d like to see the pack yourself, you can click HERE.
Friday was our very first day for Fun Friday.  We started out with the first book in her series…
After I read the book aloud to the students, we talked about the important themes in the book.  There are several writing activity pages that are included with the craftivities as well! 🙂  We did one as a whole group. Then we worked on the craft!!!
We made a fish out of paper plates!  I even threw on a bit of glitter to each fish as they were drying to simulate the glittery scales of the Rainbow Fish!
Each of the books has some kind of art and writing extension to go with it!  They kind of build on each other…so I am going to go through them in order with my bunch! 🙂  If you are interested in having a fun activity time to reward your students with at the end of their week…check this out! 🙂  We had a BLAST with it! 🙂
