Pirate-palooza!

August 2, 2012 by Tamara

So excited about school starting in a few weeks! ๐Ÿ™‚  I’ve adopted the theme of Pirates & Polka dots.  There are tons of things out there in cyberspace that I’m going to be implementing in my classroom.  Here are a few of the goodies I’ve found and some pics of goodies that I’ve made to use with my kiddos! ๐Ÿ™‚  Enjoy!
Here are my student ID Badges! ๐Ÿ™‚  Loved how these turned out…super simple to make, but will be really functional for what I need. ๐Ÿ™‚  On the very first day, I’ll take one picture of each student as they walk in.  They will wear this badge daily to remind them of their student lunch number and also to remind ME of how they get home in the afternoons! ๐Ÿ˜‰  The categories are bus rider, car rider, walker and ELC–which is what the after care program at our school is called.

Just a few pics of my management system…I’ll be using a version of a clip chart this year.  I’ll put magnets on the back of a few palm tree clip art pieces that I’ve laminated.  I’ll use a number to represent the student…rather than their name, so visitors to our classroom do not always know which student is having a rough day. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve put two steps on the chart on one page to save space on my board.  Help yourself to the badges if you’re interested! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Pirate Themed Behavior Management System-*I’ve had the most terrible time with loading pdf’s on here.  The fonts don’t look the same as what I created, so, I’ve decided to post photos instead until I can figure out what I’m doing wrong.  Don’t hesitate to comment and throw me a life line on this if you can help!*

Next up…a Gingerbread Man Scavenger’s hunt around the school! ๐Ÿ™‚ Super excited to add this to my first day events! ๐Ÿ™‚  If you are a fan of *Fun-in-First,* you may have already seen that Jodi offered this on her blog.  I thought the idea was great, but…I wanted it to match my theme so I tweaked it a bit  to be ‘pirate-y’. ๐Ÿ™‚ So…what happens is…before the school day starts, you put the little notes for the children all over the school.  Then you take them on a scavenger’s hunt to find the notes.  Arrange for someone to leave a gingerbread cookie on each student’s desk while you are out, and voila!  You have a fun activity that helps the students acclimate to the building…practice habits…and enjoy a fun memory to share with their parents when they get home!  Clue 1 should be placed in the back of the book.  Clue 2- Library/Media Center; Clue 3-Office; Clue 4-Lunchroom/Cafeteria; Clue 5-Music Room, Clue 6-Gymnasium…but we have a Pavilion instead; Clue 7- Art; Clue 9-Nurses’ Station

*Pirate Themed Gingerbread Man Scavenger’s Hunt*

Last but not least, I’ll be using Deanna Jump’s *First Day Handprint Puzzle.*  With all of the fun I’ve got planned for the kids during the day,  I definitely want them to take this cute puzzle home and work on it while they re-tell their parents all about their adventures! ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t wait to get into my classroom and start setting everything up! ๐Ÿ™‚  I’ve been stocking up on TPT things & making my own things too.  I feel like I’ll I’ve been doing for the last two weeks is cutting!  Check out all of the stuff I have to laminate!  Poor Lakeshore!  They are going to throw me out of there when they see all of this!  Check it out! :/
