Tamara — Mon, 17 May 2021 02:40:43 +0000

Memorial Day is meant to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. It’s a time to talk about struggle and sacrifice. It’s a time to remember who we have lost. On Memorial Day, I like to read a few stories to the students to help them to understand the gravity of...

Decentering Christmas

Tamara — Tue, 15 Dec 2020 00:23:46 +0000

First of all, I’m not going to enter this discussion without honoring the disruption that this is. Without acknowledging the pain that comes with realizing that the way in which some of us conduct ourselves in the name of Christianity is oppressive. To speak to the harm within our faith publicly doesn’t come without repercussion....

Creating Margin: Setting Manageable Goals through the Holidays

Tamara — Tue, 21 Nov 2017 01:01:34 +0000

One of the most stressful times of the school year for most teachers is the holidays. Between the stresses of the classroom and then on top of that, stressors at home, many teachers find this time of the year overwhelming. You are not alone. We have all been there. Some of us are still wrestling....

Greetings fellow educators! This year, I’ve been focusing on my science and social studies integration activities much more closely. I’m having a great time creating meaningful lessons for my littles. Last week, we did our Holiday themed STEAM rotations. I was so excited about doing them, I drafted my neighbor, Erin and her students into...

Three Digit Addition Fun

Tamara — Sun, 13 Dec 2015 03:04:00 +0000

This week I had a really great time integrating math and social studies! Three digit addition is usually tough for firsties, but when I combined it with holiday themed story problems and a hands on map component, my kids thought this was the best math lesson in a long time. The first time I approached...

Veteran’s Day Activities

Tamara — Sun, 08 Nov 2015 20:00:00 +0000

So many men and women have supported our country over the years. It’s important for us to thank them for their service and to tell our students their stories. One of my favorite stories to read to my students on Veteran’s Day is Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops. It’s a book by Jill Biden. Every...

Tamara — Fri, 11 Sep 2015 18:00:00 +0000

This week we took a look at some great texts to help us understand a little bit more about 9-11 and the impact it had on our country. That year, I was living right outside of Washington D.C. My Christian school worked with many military families. Parents were coming in from the Air Force Base,...

Although I’ve been creating a lot of resources for my students…I came across a pack by Katie Knight that has been a...

Tamara — Mon, 10 Dec 2012 05:26:00 +0000

So, it’s getting to be that time…the time of the year where I have to find some really cute crafts to send home with my firsties. I love a good craft as much as the next person, but…I haven’t been in first grade for years, so, I’m a bit rusty. I really don’t like meaningless...
