SDE Orlando 2016

July 1, 2016 by Tamara

SDEOrlando

Hello everyone!

This year, I got the chance to present at one of my favorite conferences….Reading, Writing, Math and More!  The last two years it has been here in Orlando, and it’s been such a blessing!  The teachers are fantastic and they are so excited about teaching!  If you’ve read my blog for bit, you probably know that I am from the Orlando area, so this is my ‘hometown conference’ 🙂  I loved the fact that I didn’t have to sleep in a hotel and I could drive in each day! 🙂

I promised folks that came to my sessions that I’d put a post together with the resources that I mentioned in the training.  Below, I’ll put links either to the blog posts where you can directly download things, or links to my TPT page so that you can purchase the product there.  So…with out further ado…

SESSION ONE: INTEGRATION STATION

In this session I talked about how I integrate science and social studies into my reading block!  It is the first session that SDE ever asked me to do and it is still very special to me.  Here are the materials that I referenced in the training.

Science with Bubbles   Good Citizen   Good Friend   underground railroad lessons   Fractions with Geoboards

SESSION TWO: SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION

In my small group session, I talk a lot about HOW I run my small group time.  What is it that I teach?  How do I teach it?  What do I expect from my students?  Small group time with my kids is probably one of my favorite times of the day! 🙂  The most important thing about small group time is knowing what you’re going to be doing with your face time with the kids!  Here are some of my suggested resources for you…for that! 🙂

Slide64     Slide65    bundle      small group goals sheets    Slide98     Classroom Management     Phonemic Awareness Drills     WordWallActivities     Stop Bugging Me I'm In Small Group     Phonemic Awareness Drills

SESSION THREE: SCIENCE FROM THE CUPBOARD

In this set of lessons, I talked about inexpensive science labs that I integrated into the classroom.  Here are a few places where you can find those labs!

Making Bubbles: STEAM Activities     Fables, Morals, and Planes, Oh My!     Holiday STEM Ideas     Volcanoes Freebie

SESSION FOUR: WRITING WITH RUBRICS

This is one of my favorite sessions to lead! 🙂 I love talking about how to use rubrics in the classroom!  I’ve written about mine extensively on my blog as well!  Here are some links to standards based rubrics I use in my first grade classroom and some blog posts that feature rubrics that I used with my writing assignments in the classroom.  Enjoy! 🙂

Kindergarten Standards Based Rubrics      Slide69     first grade writing sequence   third grade writing    Presidential Writing Rubric     Breaking Down the Standards K 1

It was a privilege to share my teacher heart with teachers across the country! I look forward to coming back again next year and meet all new teachers and help build up other teacher leaders.

I will be presenting in Las Vegas for SDE as well!  I’ll be doing writing, small group instruction and integration!

Come see me if you are in town! 🙂
