Teaching the Sounds of Y among other things….

June 1, 2014 by Tamara

Hello everyone!

Life has been so busy here!  I can’t believe how quickly the time has flown by!
Earlier this month, I got the chance to take a few days off and go to the beach! ๐Ÿ™‚
It was so much fun!
I went with 35 other ladies from church! We celebrated the remission of a dear lady from my church while we were there.  There was great food, fun, fellowship, and SHOPPING! ๐Ÿ™‚
We went to a few local stores and they were so fun!
I was able to find a cute little dress for my Fancy Y party!
I left there thinking that a beach house MUST be in my future!
Fingers crossed on that front!
When I got back, I finished up teaching the different sounds of Y!
The children and I culminated the lessons with a fantastic pack from Becca Foxwell over at
Foxwell Forest
Since our celebration of the wonders of Y fell near Mother’s Day, we turned it into a Fancy Y/Mother’s Day celebration.
The whole team participated in the Mother’s Day Celebration.  We had tables set up for each class and decked them all out with our fanciest plastic duds! ๐Ÿ™‚
I was so busy the day of the event, the only pics I have of the tablescape are from when I was trying out different designs at home! ๐Ÿ™‚  Just got too busy enjoying the event! ๐Ÿ™‚
I served some Chex Mix and Popcorn at my table.  The cafeteria provided enough sweet tea for all the moms and kids to enjoy.
The mom’s got a chance to hear the children do a poem and a special song that they’d practiced just for the special day!
The mom’s loved it, and that was the whole point! ๐Ÿ˜‰
After the Mother’s Day Tea was over…the kids and I went back to the classroom for some fun Y activities from Becca’s Unit! ๐Ÿ™‚
First, we read some Fancy Nancy Books!
Then we tried out the sorting activity as a whole group! ๐Ÿ™‚
The students really enjoyed it, and were quite proficient at it! ๐Ÿ™‚
We took some time to review the patterns of words that have a long e sound at the end, using Becca’s Fancy Y anchor chart poster.
There are several other activities in this pack that are wonderful! ๐Ÿ™‚
If you work with teaching the sounds of Y to your learners, I highly recommend using this pack to culminate your lessons! ๐Ÿ™‚  Our Mother’s Day celebration was made that much more fun with the addition of our fancy clothes from the Fancy Y party!
