Differentiated Fluency Organization

February 23, 2014 by Tamara

Greetings everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚
I just wanted to take a little time to share with you how I organize my fluency binder! ๐Ÿ™‚
Your first step is to determine how you want to differentiate your instruction.
You can divide your class into three groups and send home a new fluency each week based on a specific theme.
A second approach, would be to give each student their own passage based on their pre-determined level.
If you are sending the fluencies home by theme, then you can use your tabs to label the theme of the story.
If you are differentiating by level, you’ll want to use the excel spreadsheet.
First, level the passages by the reading diagnostic level that you use in your school.
Click on the small arrow to release the dropdown menu.
Sort the list from A- Z.
Then, print out the list and organize your binder according to the level you selected.
After you’ve organized the binder, find the stories for your students by level.
Open the filter back up.  Click ‘select all’ so that you can clear the levels out.
Then select the one level that you need.
Copy and paste the data on to one of the individual student pages.
Just click on the tab at the bottom.  Copy and paste it back into the document to make additional copies of the individual student sheet.
If you would like to have my excel spreadsheet to organize your own fluency binder, please click HERE for the google doc.
This download contains all of the titles from the first grade set of fluencies.
If you’d like a cover for your binder, feel free to print this one out! ๐Ÿ™‚
HERE is the link to the photo! ๐Ÿ™‚
