Breaking Down Standards & Using Rubrics

August 3, 2013 by Tamara

One of the things I’m most passionate about is learning everything that I can about common core!  I love breaking down the standards and aligning things to meet the new challenges!
I’m having a lot of fun learning with my team mates at work and I’m happy to share what we are learning together with you as well! 😉
Each Tuesday I’ll be sharing some common core tools and tricks with you from my classroom.  I hope you’ll join me! 🙂  I’ll start in September! 🙂
Click HERE for an EDITABLE document that you can
type into to help you break down the standards.
Click HERE for the PDF version of the document that you can write on.

One of the ways that I have found helpful to break down the intent of the standards is to look at the important words in specific standards.  I’ve put together a quick freebie of an idea that we have used on our team in the past to get our minds wrapped around the standards.  Click on the link below the image to snag this for yourself.  I’ve made the document editable and I’ll be referring to it in the fall when we start talking about the standards in earnest! 🙂
**Note…this is the first time I’ve attempted an editable doc…cross your fingers that it works!**

This all ties in really well with our Wishlist Sale Item!!

Here we go with Number 2 on my list!  It’s a tie! Can you believe it! 🙂  My first grade ELA and Math Scales & Rubrics!  In Florida, we are required to use scales and rubrics in our classrooms to explain our expectations. I post them in my classroom and refer to them mostly during the small group instructional time.  It took the students some time to get used to them, but…once they did…they would initiate discussion on where they were ‘on the rubric’!  I was AMAZED!  Sometimes, I’m tempted to think of them as babies…I mean…most of them are only six, but it’s amazing how deeply they think sometimes, and how much they want to be the best at everything they try their hand at! 🙂  If you were interested in picking up any of my rubrics, they are all on sale today only, for 25% off!
