Hello fellow educator,

When we think about student engagement, we’ve got to think about intentionality and purpose. Engagement is not just making sure that students are entertained. It is about making sure that students are committed to a deep understanding of their material that leads them to affirming their own learning and or sharing it with other students.

Description

A Carousel Review is a great way for students to all be working at the same time while they talk about solutions and strategies for their learning. It is a very simple construct, but very effective as a tool for increased engagement and collaboration.

This is a structure I use in my classroom frequently to help students become more confident in their skills. Simply print the math problems out onto regular paper and tape them up around your classroom. Students can rotate in groups to each problem and solve it on the recording sheets. There are two copies of the recording sheet. One with the problems listed and one that is blank so that students can show their work on paper as they rotate the room. I’ve used the copy with the problems listed as a formative assessment when students work independently.

This tool pairs with my morning work set: Third Grade Spiral Review Unit 1 Rounding.
