Hello fellow educator!
I am so excited to share this resource with you!
This labor of love is something that I’ve used in my classroom for the last several years and it is not only successful at helping kids to learn their states and landmarks, but one of my students’ favorite units.

Description

I have a simple one pager that goes over the broad strokes of teaching with this tool. You can see it in the preview or download it seperately HERE.
This resource features states and landmarks in the MIDWEST. The following states are featured in the unit: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa

This unit includes a daily Midwest States Practice Powerpoint to open the lesson and familiarize the students with each state in the region.

There’s a Teaching Powerpoint that you can use that features each state, a variety of symbols, famous landmarks and famous people. To support sharing the information, I’ve included a word document with information for each slide that you can read word for word, or synthesize to shorten your lesson time.

There is a file for all of your partner and independent work that features a choice board. The board is editable so you can add or remove activities based on what you would like to emphasize. The choice board activities are leveled and color coded for ease of storage and organization. Each level has a computer based must do activity and two hands on can do activities such as task cards, region puzzles, map making activites and even a craft.

Finally, you can check for mastery in a formative way by using the mastery check printables, or just use the mini-unit assessments to check for mastery of the states within the region.

If you love this unit, please stay on the look out for the following upcoming units:
The Midwest
The Mountain West
The West
The South
The Northeast

Thank you for choosing to utilize my resource to aid in your students’ instruction.
I deeply value your trust!
Your partner in education,
Tamara Russell, NBCT
