Happy Wednesday to you all. Welcome to another installment of Tech Tips with Tamara. Today, I’m going to share with you how to link up for a linky party.
What is a Linky Party?
A linky party is a great opportunity to connect with a bunch of other like minded bloggers. There are several different free ways to host a linky party, but for now, I’ll just talk about what to do when you’d like to be a part of one.
Linky parties are usually thematic. They can occur weekly, or even monthly. I am part of two book study linky parties this summer. If you’re already following me, you know that I’m doing Teach Like a Pirate, Word Nerds and my own weekly linky called Fun in the Sun!
Once you link up, there are a couple ‘bloggy-etiquitte’ rules that are super important.
1.) Provide thoughtful feedback on the hosts’ post.
*This shows appreciation for the opportunity to connect with others. Everyone likes to be thanked for what they do! 🙂 Read their post, and comment on it. ‘Thanks for an awesome linky.’ is not enough.:) Be specific about things that they posted. Especially in a large linky party, the host may not be able to respond to ALL of the comments, but ones that show depth will certainly be eye catching and make you more memorable.
2.) Connect with others appropriately.
*It is commonly accepted that bloggers go on linky parties to connect with others. Avoid requesting that people come to your blog because you just liked theirs. I know when you’re starting out…and you only have 3 followers, it’s tough. I remember those days myself and hoping beyond hope that I would become relevant in a sea of blogging juggernauts. Remember that slow and steady wins the race. Just do the appropriate activity and your numbers will grow over time.
3.) Have the right follow through.
*Typically, you are expected to respond to the person before your post, and the one after. Some will ask you to do TWO people after you. Even if you respond to two other people within the linky party because you know them, or recognize their icon, please still respond to the person directly behind you and in front of you. If that is a brand new blogger…they will appreciate the thoughtful comment on their post!
