Hope you had a good week! I sure did! 😉 I’ve started teaching a set of interdisciplinary lessons for economics that I made a few weeks ago. The kids seem to be pretty into it so far. On our first grade team, we’ve been integrating the science and social studies work text into our reading block. We do just a little at a time, so as not to overwhelm the students, but it still takes us a bit of time to get through it. In order to make sure that we are meeting the rigor of the common core, but also still making the material approachable, I’ve made this set of lessons that will work in concert with the work text. I reviewed the standards that I need to teach, along with the salient vocabulary for the content. I lexiled the text that I wrote and realized that it was a 670, so, I broke down the lessons I was teaching a bit further and included some songs to help the learning stick. We went through the first lesson on Wednesday, and then I followed it up with the work text on Thursday…instant success! 🙂 Super excited about it! 🙂
How are you teaching economics content in your classrooms this year?
